Food Photography & Review: Frames Cafe

August 26th, 2010

Previous located in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) this lovely cafe has recently moved to the ground floor of Sunway Pyramid, just below the lion’s head, next to Starbucks. Coincidently this is my second blog posting about Frames Cafe, you can read the earlier posting about the restaurant here.

In comparison to the previous venue, the new place certainly has a more open and airy look and feel, with its ample windows allowing ample daylight to get into the restaurant making it bright and cheery. In the evening, aided by an abundance of sunway pyramid night lighting, the mood transforms like a chameleon into a trendy cosmopolitan chillout place.

Walking into the cafe, you will immediately notice the various photographs hanging on its wall. These are lovely to look at as you wait for your meal and if you are smitten by any of the shots, do speak to the owners as these photos are for sale.

Here are a few photographs of the food which I reviewed. The full review of the restaurant will appear in the November issue of KLue magazine.

Family Portrait Session

August 11th, 2010

I love taking family portrait sessions especially when its done in an outdoor environment such as a park or playground area. In addition to all of the benefits of natural lighting, I find that the surroundings are more relaxing and enjoyable for all involved in comparison to that of a conventional studio environment.

Recently I had the opportunity to take an outdoor family portrait shots of one of my best friends, Alicia who was on a holiday to Malaysia from Switzerland with her husband Cedric and their three beautiful and adorable kids.

It has been almost three years since I last met up her family and how time really does seem to fly past so very quickly. Meilyn, who is nine years old and Mikael who is now seven have grown so big in such a short time. It was the first time also that I had the opportunity to meet the new addition to the family, Shanlee who will be turning one on Merdeka Day (31st August).

It was such a joy to meet up with them again and to take these photos as they were so easy to photograph. After barely over an hour of the portrait session we already ended up with a ton of images. Here are some sneak preview images, more will be updated on my website in due course.

To view more photos of this event, head to Cedric & Alicia’s Family Portrait Session Gallery

Food Photography & Review: Serai Empire

July 28th, 2010

The next time you’re in Subang Jaya, do stop by the new shopping mall called Empire Shopping Gallery located just behind Subang Parade. While you’re there, and if you’re wondering what new cuisine to try, you could head to Serai Empire which is a Malaysian and western fusion themed restaurant. Serving interesting and quirky dishes such as penne beef rendang, moroccan flavoured dishes with old favourite drinks such as sirap selasih this is a curious place.

Stepping into the restaurant, the deco is simple, clean and fresh looking. I personally would have preferred additional soft furnishing to give a more cosy feel to the place. A fresh stalk of serai (lemongrass) placed in a vase on each table ties in with the restaurant logo. The layout of the place is narrow but extends quite far back, with a smoking area placed at the rear so as not to intrude.

The food here is interesting and its worth going there for something a little different and unique. A full review of the restaurant will appear in the September issue of KLue magazine.

Work Life Balance Conference 2010

July 22nd, 2010

I received another invitation recently to attend the Work-Life Balance Congress themed “The Way Forward” held from the 14-15 July 2010 at the Swiss Garden Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Following last year’s successful conference, I was excited to see what this year had in store.

This year’s conference was organised by NIEW (NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women Malaysia), Gorgeous Geeks, Ministry of Women Family and Community Developmment and eHomemakers. The 2-day program was filled with exciting speakers and panelists from Malaysia and abroad. Speakers from the USA, Netherlands and Switzerland were connected directly via live-web conference facilities, thanks to Cisco.

Do click on the more tab to read more about the conference and to see visuals taken of the day using my Canon G10, hence do excuse the image quality.

Food Photography & Review: Albion

July 17th, 2010

If you’re around the Changkat Bukit Bintang area in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and suddenly find yourself with a craving for authentic British cuisine, then do head to Albion (Modern British Dining & Bar). Hidden along the narrow alleyway of Jalan Berangan, the restaurant can easily be identified by a bright red sign board. Finding the restaurant is not an issue but finding a parking spot can be quite difficult hence best to park at a nearby location and walk to the restaurant.

Although the restaurant was small, the ambiance was warm and inviting and the restaurant was cosy. The only thing detracting from the British tone of the place was the Indian background music. Maybe one of the staff members got to choose the cd for the day, who knows.

The food here is really good and well presented, a must try restaurant if you’re in the area. By the way, a full review of the restaurant will appear in the September issue of the KLue magazine.

Outdoor Kids Portrait with Jeish

July 11th, 2010

I recently had the opportunity to photograph Mohammed Jeish and his mom Jameela for an Family Portrait Photography Session in Putrajaya and Serdang. Initially we planned to have the shoot in the heart of KL but had to change the venue last minute due to massive jam.  Luckily the traffic to Putrajaya was smooth and the shoot went on well without a hitch.

Jameela who is Assad’s sister saw my baby portrait photography session for Ariez and subsequently requested to book me for a portrait session. She flew all the way from Johor although she was 4 months pregnant. It was also unfortunate that her husband Shajath could not join us as he was away in Dubai for work at the time.

Jameela it was great meeting you and I had so much fun photographing Jeish who was filled with zest and vigour and a smile like a ray of sunshine. I hope I get the opportunity to also capture your little bundle of joy once you’ve delivered the baby. Good luck!

Darshini’s 21st Birthday Party

June 28th, 2010

Here are some sneak preview shots taken during Darshini’s 21st Birthday Party Celebration. The party which was held at her beautiful home in Shah Alam on Saturday, 12 June 2010 was attended by her close family and friends. The theme colour of the party was gold & blue, hence the table cloth and drapes on the tent were in the shade of gold, while the cake had a beautiful blue & gold tint to it. Darshini looked amazingly beautuiful in a blue saree. Lots more images to be updated on my website, but in the mean time do enjoy viewing the sneak preview shots taken by Benjamin who stood in for me as I had a prior engagement.

Outdoor Baby Portrait Session with Bella

June 24th, 2010

I recently photographed a baby and family portrait session in a residential park in Klang. Bella who’s gonna turn one soon was fun to photograph as she had so many interesting and unique facial expressions from happy, sad, cheeky, curious to the dreamy look. She tirelessly posed for the camera and entertained us with her singing and cute baby talks.

I know Bella’s mom, Evelyne from my secondary school days and it was great to meet up with her again after all these years thanks to Facebook. The portraiture session went on well as we were blessed with great weather and beautiful blue sky.

Thanks for an amazing time Evelyne and Noel, Bella was such a darling to photograph and I hope you enjoying viewing these sneak preview shots. I have to admit picking photos for my blog was not an easy task as there were too many choices to begin with.

More collages of the portrait session will be placed on my Facebook group – Asha Carlos Photography Facebook Page, in the coming days so do ‘like’ the page to see the images.

To view more photos of this event, head to Baby Bella’s Family Portrait Session Gallery
