Launching of Persatuan Pembangunan Etika, 28 March 2009

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Last Saturday amidst Earth Hour, I was busy shooting the launching and officiating ceremony of ‘Persatuan Pembangunan Etika’ at Hotel Maluri, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur.

This fundraising event with the theme “Dinner Towards Knowledge” started with the lighting ceremony of the lamp (Kuttu Vilakku) followed by an interesting array of ‘Bharata Natyam’ dance performances, motivational talk by local speaker N. Sargunaraj as well as a comedy act by local comedian, Acappan. The guests were kept entertained throughout the night with ‘live’ music and motivational songs.

Dev & Thiru’s Wedding Ceremony, 23 March 2009

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Here are some shots of Dev & Thiru’s Wedding which I shot at the Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple in Petaling Jaya, last monday. I had to rise up at the break of dawn as the wedding was at 7.30am, my earliest temple wedding as yet!

Both of them looked really suave especially Thiru who looked ravashing in her imported gold woven Saree from India. Being a Malayalee wedding, the ceremony took only about 10 minutes and was over in a jiffy. After breakfast, the couple headed back to Dev’s house for the traditional milk and banana eating ceremony. Sweet is served to the couple by their parents and family members to symbolise sweatness in their life.

A huge shout out goes to my friend Amru from Enchanted Forest, whom I got acquainted with during LP’s Workshop. Thanks loads Amru! Can’t wait to reciprocate and shoot with you this coming weekend!

Earth Hour, Let's make a difference

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

What began as a campaign to get Sydneysiders to turn their lights off, has grown to become one of the world’s biggest climate change initiatives. This year, at 8.30pm on March 28, people around the world will turn their lights for one hour – Earth Hour. One billion people, more than 1000 cities, mobilising in a global effort to ensure world leaders commit to actioning the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia with 2.2 million homes and businesses turning their lights off for one whole hour. Only a year later and this event had become a global sustainability movement with up to 100 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

Earth Hour 2009 is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community. A call to stand up, to take responsibility and to get involved in working towards a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Europe to The Americas will stand in darkness. People across the world will turn off their lights and join together in creating the vital conversation about the future of our precious planet.

Earth Hour is a message of hope and a message of action. Everyone can make a difference.

Dev & Thiru’s pre-wedding shoot

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Dev & Thiru came recommended from one of my Flickr friends, Prem McNeil who shot their marriage registration photos. Thiru & Dev who are both die-hard Liverpool fans, are lovely to be around with, as they are just so easy going.

Their pre-wedding casual outdoor wedding shoot was done at Lake Gardens (Taman Tasik Perdana) in Kuala Lumpur. It had almost been 3 years since I had been to the park, so it came as a surprise to me how the place has been done up and improved over the years. There is even a large play area for kids called ‘Dinosaur Park’!

Despite the wet day, the sun came shining almost immediately when the rain subsided and we managed to walk around the park to get some amazing shots!

Thanks Dev & Thiru for a wonderful day, I enjoyed shooting with the both of you and can’t wait to photograph your wedding.

I’m back from England

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Hi everyone, thanks for your patience and the loads of emails you’ve been sending me these past 3 weeks. I’m back in Malaysia and will be going full throttle with my photography again.

Before I start posting images of recent shoots, let me share with you some photos from my trip to UK. Most of these shots were taken using Fuji 450 point and shoot camera.

Here are my 3 weeks in a nut shell for you:

  • Snowdrop flowers to mark the start of spring, holly plants and dried leaves of winter
  • Lovely view at Rudyard Lake (Top Gear Lake) in Leek
  • Temperature there was between 1 to 9 degrees celcius each day and it snowed a little before I left
  • My favourite English food – Cornish Pasty & Meat and Potato Pie with some Chips (lacking gravy though!).
  • Holly plants and the dried leaves of winter
  • Guiness, freshly brewed from Ireland
  • Some grafitti on the wall at a construction site near a local park
  • Biddulph Cemetary
  • As promised, here’s a shot of me and my husband, David.

My last 2 weeks…

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Apologies everyone… I know its been like more than 2 weeks since my last post, I’ve had to suddenly fly to England for a private family affair and am scheduled to be back to Malaysia on 12 March.

During this time, I’ve had a chance to unwind and rethink about a lot of things including photography as well. I’ve made a resolution to make an effort to blog more often… I know, its like March already, and making resolutions are like old school by now, but I guess It’s never too late. I’ll also try to blog not only about photography but about my other loves, interests and some personal stuff as well!

In the mean time, if anyone of you are planning to head to United Kingdom (UK) soon, here are some tips and info which may be helpful:

01) Support local farmer’s markets, local shops etc. (Many of them have recently closed down due to the economic downturn)

02) If you’re heading to the shops, bring your own shopping bags. (In an effort to save mother earth, less bags are being handed out).

03) Smoking has been banned in all pubs. (Thus giving the local pubs more of a restaurant feel to it)

04) Beware of yobs when you’re out and about. (Yob – spelt backwards for boy. Means young teenagers who are thugish)

05) Drinking Apple Cider is back in style!

06) Always carry an umbrella and bring warm clothings with you when you travel to UK – any season, any time. (The weather is quite unpredictable nowadays)

07) Check yourself into a local Bed & Breakfast (B&B) as the experience is delicious, especially breakfast.

08) If you are heading to London, head to the BBC website and get an audience pass for one of your favourite shows.

09) Renting a car might be cheaper than you think.(The longer you rent, the cheaper per day it gets).

10) Chivalry still exists!
