David & Anantha’s Catholic Church Wedding

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Precisely one week after David & Anantha’s temple wedding, I photographed their Catholic church wedding held at Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL) Church, Klang on 27th November 2010. The bride and groom, in fact the entire wedding party were dressed to perfection, and the service which lasted about an hour was celebrated by OLL’s parish priest, Rev. Father John Gnanapiragasam. The wedding ceremony went on without a hitch (no pun intended) and was attended by David and Anantha’s close family and friends.

On a personal note, I was especially happy to be photographing at OLL Church as not only is it a historic building built in 1928 with beautiful architecture (reminding me a little of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris), but it also brought back lots of memories of my childhood as this was the parish I grew up in.

Here are a few sneak preview shots taken at the church. Stay tuned for the dinner reception photos which will appear on my photography blog soon.

Salina’s Lenggang Perut (Bangle Wearing) Ceremony

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

As a photographer it’s always a pleasure to receive a new assignment from a previous client. A while ago I had the privilege to take some wedding shots of Salina and her husband, Rajindren. I was thrilled when she contacted me with news that she was seven months pregnant. It gives me great satisfaction to have the opportunity to capture key moments in people’s lives, and Salina’s Bangle Wearing Ceremony (Valaikappu) was certainly a joyous occasion.

A bangle wearing ceremony is a tradition usually performed when seven months pregnant. Relatives adorn the mother-to-be with a selection of glass bangles on her arms for the well being of mother and baby. Sandalwood paste is smeared on the face, hands and feet of the expectant mother in order to cool the body, and a selection of rice is offered, the choice of which signifies whether the baby will be a boy or girl – supposedly.

The bangle ceremony was held in a beautifully decorated apartment in Cheras and Salina looked gorgeous that I had a tough time choosing which photos to place on my blog. So here are just a few of them taken during the event, showcasing her beauty and an enchanting ‘glow’ that is so unique to pregnant women.

David & Anantha’s Traditional Hindu Wedding Ceremony

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

I love weddings – it’s always a joy to capture the feelings and emotions of the day as the happy couple join together in celebration of their love, in the presence of their nearest and dearest. It was a real privilege to photograph the temple wedding ceremony of David and Anantha on the 20th of November at the Arulmigu Raja Rajeswari Temple, Taman Sentosa, Klang.

Temple wedding ceremonies are by their nature, particularly lively and colourful events, with an abundance of vibrant Sarees on display and jewellery aplenty, and this was no exception. Once I started clicking my camera, it was difficult to stop, I felt completely in my element and this is why I love photography and capturing those lifelong memories so much!

The temple ceremony was beautifully conducted by the Hindu priest with close family members and friends attending to shower the couple with love and their blessings. Anantha looked amazing in her Saree and her make-up was flawless while David looked dashing. Here are some sneak preview images taken at the temple during the ceremony. More images will be updated on the gallery section of my website soon.

Feel free to leave comments on my blog and here’s a link to their outdoor engagement photo session which I took for them earlier this year. Enjoy.

Newly Weds

Introducing Baby Madeline

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

It’s precisely two months since the birth of my daughter Madeline, and a lot has changed in such a short amount of time. Most of you who follow my blog would know how much I enjoy taking portrait photos. I’m especially blessed that I have the opportunity to photograph my own child. Though she is still so new to the world she is already helping me develop my experience of photographing a newborn and helping me to understand how to achieve the shot I want. Baby photography has one thing in common with wildlife photography – the key to success is patience, and lots of it!

Baby Madeline has grown from a tiny delicate baby to a robust and energetic two month old in what feels like the blink of an eye. She’s growing fast and her personality is already showing through, with her facial expressions changing by the day. Her vision and focusing is also developing rapidly, and she can already identify people, colours, cartoon drawings and so on.

From what I’ve experienced so far, it’s certainly true what they say, that children grow up so incredibly fast. For this reason I like to photograph my child on a regular basis so any time I want to reminisce over those cherished moments I browse my photo albums and unlock the memories. If you have a special occasion with your baby that you want to cherish then I would highly recommend considering a professional photographer to capture the moment, as even the most cherished memories fade over time, but a good photograph keeps those essential moments fresh in the mind. But I would say that, being in the industry, so enough of the sales spiel already.

On a more personal note, motherhood brings with it feelings of indescribable joy. Ok granted, included with the package is a plentiful supply of sleep deprivation, endless nappy changing, relentless crying and so on, but nonetheless there’s no other feeling of contentment that can compare… I would not trade it for anything!

In celebration of my little tiger cub’s two month birthday, here are a few of my favourite shots of her ranging from a few hours after she was born, up until now.

Food Photography & Review: Munich Gastro Bierhaus

Monday, October 25th, 2010

My latest food review of 2010 is for none other than Munich Gastro Bierhaus, a lovely German restaurant situated in the new IOI Boulevard in Puchong. This is the place to dine if you’re craving some wholesome German cuisine. For any beer monsters out there there is a reasonable selection of imported beer from around the globe.

The restaurant offers a choice of seating, either indoor dining or outdoor alfresco style, with air conditioning a plenty for either option. The restaurant is kitted out with ample wide screen TVs, which makes it an ideal place to kick back and relax with a few beers and snacks whilst watching live football matches – what more could anyone ask for?

Here are a few photos of the food served by Munich. For the full review of the restaurant do check out the November issue of KLue magazine.

I’m back!

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

If you have been following my blog you would have noticed the lack of blog postings in the last month or two. Reason being I’ve just delivered a beautiful baby daughter in August and have since been recuperating at home. I spent the first month or 44 days to be precise, since my delivery in confinement. This is an asian tradition followed after giving birth by which my diet was restricted to only certain types of food, I kept myself wrapped up so I feel like an inferno and I only take a bath in herbal water.

Despite the inconvenience of confinement, I’m glad my mum insisted that I follow these practices which have been passed down from generation. I’m happy to say that I am fully recovered thanks to my family and am now back on my feet again ready to start photographing weddings and portraiture sessions from November 2010 onwards, hence please contact me to check on my availability.

Here’s a sneak preview of a picture taken by my husband of my daughter and I. More shots of her will be posted soon …so keep your eyes peeled on the blog!

Mother holding her newborn child

I came across this beautiful poem by Kahlil Gibran, thanks to a friend of mine, Steph Tan which sums up what I feel about the above picture.

“Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
…For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit,
not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.”

- Kahlil Gibran
