Food Photography & Review: Serai Empire

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

The next time you’re in Subang Jaya, do stop by the new shopping mall called Empire Shopping Gallery located just behind Subang Parade. While you’re there, and if you’re wondering what new cuisine to try, you could head to Serai Empire which is a Malaysian and western fusion themed restaurant. Serving interesting and quirky dishes such as penne beef rendang, moroccan flavoured dishes with old favourite drinks such as sirap selasih this is a curious place.

Stepping into the restaurant, the deco is simple, clean and fresh looking. I personally would have preferred additional soft furnishing to give a more cosy feel to the place. A fresh stalk of serai (lemongrass) placed in a vase on each table ties in with the restaurant logo. The layout of the place is narrow but extends quite far back, with a smoking area placed at the rear so as not to intrude.

The food here is interesting and its worth going there for something a little different and unique. A full write-up of the restaurant review will appear in the October issue of KLue magazine. To read the review click me.

Work Life Balance Conference 2010

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

I received another invitation recently to attend the Work-Life Balance Congress themed “The Way Forward” held from the 14-15 July 2010 at the Swiss Garden Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Following last year’s successful conference, I was excited to see what this year had in store.

This year’s conference was organised by NIEW (NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women Malaysia), Gorgeous Geeks, Ministry of Women Family and Community Developmment and eHomemakers. The 2-day program was filled with exciting speakers and panelists from Malaysia and abroad. Speakers from the USA, Netherlands and Switzerland were connected directly via live-web conference facilities, thanks to Cisco.

Do click on the more tab to read more about the conference and to see visuals taken of the day using my Canon G10, hence do excuse the image quality.

Food Photography & Review: Albion

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

If you’re around the Changkat Bukit Bintang area in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and suddenly find yourself with a craving for authentic British cuisine, then do head to Albion (Modern British Dining & Bar). Hidden along the narrow alleyway of Jalan Berangan, the restaurant can easily be identified by a bright red sign board. Finding the restaurant is not an issue but finding a parking spot can be quite difficult hence best to park at a nearby location and walk to the restaurant.

Although the restaurant was small, the ambiance was warm and inviting and the restaurant was cosy. The only thing detracting from the British tone of the place was the Indian background music. Maybe one of the staff members got to choose the cd for the day, who knows.

The food here is really good and well presented, a must try restaurant if you’re in the area. A full write-up of the restaurant review will appear in the October issue of KLue magazine. To read the review click me.

Outdoor Kids Portrait with Jeish

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

I recently had the opportunity to photograph Mohammed Jeish and his mom Jameela for an Family Portrait Photography Session in Putrajaya and Serdang. Initially we planned to have the shoot in the heart of KL but had to change the venue last minute due to massive jam.  Luckily the traffic to Putrajaya was smooth and the shoot went on well without a hitch.

Jameela who is Assad’s sister saw my baby portrait photography session for Ariez and subsequently requested to book me for a portrait session. She flew all the way from Johor although she was 4 months pregnant. It was also unfortunate that her husband Shajath could not join us as he was away in Dubai for work at the time.

Jameela it was great meeting you and I had so much fun photographing Jeish who was filled with zest and vigour and a smile like a ray of sunshine. I hope I get the opportunity to also capture your little bundle of joy once you’ve delivered the baby. Good luck!

To view more photos of this event, head to Jeish’s Portrait Session Gallery
