Portrait Masterclass with Lito Sy

My  family and I decided to head back to Malaysia for a 3 weeks holiday break recently and I was thrilled to find out that WPPA (Wedding and Portrait Photographers of Asia) was organising their annual conference at the same time. Always on the look out to improve my photography skill and to be inspired, I decided to enroll for the 1-day Masterclass by Lito Sy (pronounced Lito See) in Damansara. Lito Sy who is from Philippines, is an award winning photographer and ambassador for many photographic equipments. So enjoy viewing some of the images which I photographed on the day.

Our model for the day was Elena from Russia, she was amazingly patient despite having 20 + photographers trying to pose her to their whim and fancy, All these shots were taken at DPAC (Damansara Performing Arts Centre). Since I was on holiday, I had minimal gear with me, only travelling with one lens and a camera body, all shots here, were taken using my 30mm lens. The workshop rekindled my memory of attending Jerry Ghionis workshop. I found that Lito Sy had a lot in common with Jerry especially his photography style and using the additional light source.

It was great also to meet other like minded photographers not only from Malaysia but from other Asian coutries such as India and Bangladesh as well who were very enthusiastic and eager to learn.

All these shots were taken outdoor on a rainy day, around DPAC.

Here’s Lito Sy giving his briefing on posing the model, determining the light source and creating the right emotion.

This was my last shot of Elena, before I left home while the other photographers continued to do more indoor shoot and get some tips on editing as I had left both my kids with my parents and husband to take care of and it had already been a long day for me.

Here’s a shot with Lito Sy before I left, I could not stay for the full day session but I was lucky to have met him and to refresh my photography skills.  I would definitely recommend others who have not attended to book your seat for next year. Its a great opportunity to be empowered and to get your mojo back if you are needing a lift or some inspiration.
