Casual Portraits

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Many people like to take portraits during an important time of their life such as documenting the arrival of their newborn child, birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions and so on. Actually you don’t really need a reason – any time is a good occasion to let your hair down, get glammed up and take some fun photos with your friends or family.

I enjoyed photographing these three lovely ladies, who happen to be school teachers, at the Palace of the Golden Horses, Mines Resort recently. We had a dress change halfway through the session, starting off with casual and relaxed clothing and moving on to more dressy and glamorous attire. Here are a few sneak preview images to enjoy.

Pet Portraits – Shih Tzu Dogs

Friday, September 30th, 2011

You have probably heard the line made famous by W.C. Fields, “Never work with children or animals”. That may well be true in the showbiz world, but as a photographer I enjoy working with children and animals very much. Sure it can be challenging because neither like to take instruction, but with a little patience the results can be very rewarding.

I had the opportunity recently to take a pet portrait session for Deanna and Rita and their pet shih tzus. These two cute little brothers are so adorable that anyone would just fall in love with them at first sight! Best friends Deanna and Rita have cared for the dogs, Chom-Chom and Baby since they were just two months old.

For the photoshoot we headed to Desa Park City where it’s common for dog owners take a morning stroll with their beloved pets. There’s a cafe there, Fitou Brasserie which allows you to bring your dog as you sip a cup of tea and have your meal, an unusually refreshing sight indeed. Enjoy the photos.

Family Portrait Photographs

Monday, September 19th, 2011

I recently took a portrait shoot for some relatives of mine as my aunt has been wanting to get a family portrait done for quite some time. Getting the family together is not such an easy task when everyone is often busy with work, college and traveling and so on. It was a perfect opportunity when my cousins all met up from near and far for a short break.

After we completed the more traditional portrait shots, my cousins suggested taking some more casual family shots at a nearby graffiti wall. It was a good shoot and thoroughly enjoyable, especially as the family are open minded, easy going and quite relaxed in front of the camera. Here are some of those shots, hope you enjoy viewing them!

Portraiture of a Dancer

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Hi everyone! Sorry for the late update, I’ve been in Singapore for a couple of days now, and had a wonderful trip!

I’m the midst of sorting the travel photos at the moment, hope to share some interesting tips and pointers with everyone in the coming days. While waiting, here’s a shot which I stumbled upon, taken during my film days of a cruise dancer during one of their performances at Matta Fair, a travel and trade related fair, held twice a year in March and September in PWTC, KL which offers some great bargains to travellers alike.

This reportage shot was taken with my then F50 Nikon film camera and the 70-300mm lens (which I have since sold-off).

David & Suzanne's 20th Wedding Anniversary, 21 November 2008

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I had the privilege to photograph David & Suzanne’s 20th wedding anniversary last Friday at the Selayang Palace Restaurant.  The restaurant was just next to the Selayang Hospital but getting there was not easy as it was a Friday night hence the massive jam !

As I was taking the shots, I enjoyed observing the 50-odd guests consisting of David & Suzanne’s very close family and friends and waited for the right moment to capture them breaking into a laugh or smile.  As I was taking the shots, I even had loads of valuable photography tips from Uncle Tom who photographs various dignitaries from Singapore. Thanks for the tips Uncle Tom !

David & Suzanne – You both are blessed indeed, I wish you many more happy anniversaries to come !

Beautiful portraits of Aishah

Monday, January 28th, 2008

During KL Flickr meet’s recent trip to Kuala Selangor. I managed to shoot the sweet and demure Aishah, who in my opinion encompasses the true Malay beauty. She was such a star by posing throughout the day tirelessly and looking spot-on despite the scorching sun. The locations were mainly at the Palm Oil Plantation in Ijok, paddy field and Bukit Malawati, Kuala Selangor.

Portraits of Lydia

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Here are some shots taken of Lydia, a local model during the recent lighting workshop I did with sifu Ted Adnan. It was an educational workshop into the insights of Flash Photography. I also had the opportunity to meet 4 other enthusiastic photogs – Wan Husmi, Wan Azlan, Amri & Ahmad Fairus. We got a chance to learn about ‘understanding your flash’, fill in flash technique, mix lighting with flash and multiple flash set-up. It was an interesting but tiring session. But well worth it!

Portraits

Monday, November 5th, 2007

My initial passion was to take nature and travel photos, but as time passed I realised that capturing people is equally exciting as it adds a personal touch to the photo and brings forth their character to life.

I also believe that each one of us are beautiful even if we’ve never won a beauty contest or have been featured on the front pages of a magazine. As a photographer I aim to capture your individuality and personality which shines though. I hope you enjoy viewing these portrait shots. Keep your eyes glued for more photos in the near future!
