Holy Redeemer Church Confirmation Photography

May 27th, 2010

I’ve photographed Holy Communion shoots for HRC Church in Klang before but this was the first time I was photographing the Confirmation Students. The conferments are much older, mainly 17 years old and this would be one of the sacraments they receive as a Catholic.

Instead of the parish priest, the Archbishop will be the person to place his hand over the conferment’s head and anoint them, the Archbishop will also bestow the gifts of the Holy Spirit to each of them.

There were about 38 conferments in total and the event went on smoothly thanks to the organising committee. Here are some images taken during the mass on 23 May 2010.

One of the most beautiful statue of Jesus in Mother Mary’s arms. I remember seeing a similar statue to this at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris when I was there for mass some years back.

Food Photography & Review: Kirishima Japanese Restaurant

May 19th, 2010

Situated in one of the trendiest and busiest places in Kuala Lumpur, Kirishima is based in the hip building of Dua Annex on Jalan Tun Razak just walking distance away from KL Twin Towers. The design of the restaurant is a mixed of old and new. Beautiful chandeliers hang on the wall amidst sake bottles and tea cups in the background. Private rooms facing lush greenery are also available for dining in. If you can’t get the waiter, don’t worry, just press a button on your table and they are at your service.

The food served in this restaurant is exquisite and tantalises the palate as the chef takes time to ensure that each dish is not only delicious but also aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Here are some photographs taken of the restaurant. A full write-up of the restaurant review will appear in the June issue of KLue magazine. To read the review click me.

Pre-Wedding Outdoor Photo Shoot

May 10th, 2010

I recently had the opportunity to assist a photographer friend of mine, Steph Tan during one of her outdoor pre-wedding shoots. The couple, Matt and Jen will be having their wedding in September. Matt is from Hong Kong while Jen who is Malaysian is currently also living in Hong Kong.

There was a two parter to their pre-wedding photo, one done indoor in the centre of Kuala Lumpur while the second done outdoor at a park. I joined Steph, Amru, Angie (make-up artist) and even CM Leung for the outdoor session, it was a fabulous day as it didn’t rain (I guess our rain dance worked!) and we managed to brave the tons of mossies’ and leeches around.

Here are some of the sneak preview shots of the day.

Raj & Deepa’s Family Outdoor Portrait Shoot

April 16th, 2010

Here are some family portrait shots taken of Raj & Deepa who found me thanks to Google search! They decided to do a portrait session of their family to coincide with their daughter, Thrishaani Jothi’s 1st birthday.

Although photographing kids is more difficult than adults and a lot of patience is required, I still love getting that smile and glitter from their eyes, this makes every shot that much more meaningful for me. It took a while for Thrishaani to warm up to the camera, but once she did, her smile could melt anyone’s heart!

These family portraiture shots were taken in Kuala Lumpur and thankfully we were blessed with great weather! Here are some sneak-preview shots taken of the session. Do enjoy viewing it.

Guy Gowan, the photoshop guru in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

April 9th, 2010

It was a last minute decision, but I was glad to have made the choice to join Guy Gowan’s 2-day workshop organised by Master Photographer Association (MPA) from the UK at the Banker’s Club, Amoda Building in Kuala Lumpur. Jim Liau who’s a renowned photographer from Malaysia and a member of the MPA managed to get Colin Buck, the Chief Executive of the MPA to hold a qualifying and judging session in Malaysia for the first time.

For this session the MPA brought along Guy Gowan, a photoshop guru to teach us some fancy techniques and tips on using Photoshop. Seeing things as a photographer, I had a chance to learn how a designer works and thinks. We were taught on various retouching methods instead of just “wanging” the standard feature bars or using the auto feature in photoshop. Besides that, I also had a chance to meet other local enthusiastic photographers and get tips on what the judges are looking for to join the MPA.

Here are some photographs taken during the workshop, enjoy viewing!
