I had the opportunity to shoot Reverend Canon Emeritus Peter Devanayagam’s 70th birthday party last Saturday at St Mary’s Anglican Cathedral at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.  This is the first time I have shot in the vicinity of St Mary’s and was totally inspired by its 1890s architecture, chandeliers and stained glass. The surprise party however was held in the hall next to the church.  The hall was beautifully converted into a fitting space thanks to Steven Gonzaga’s decorating skills and flower arrangements by Willows @ BSC.

Friends and family of Rev. Canon  came to share and celebrate his lifetime with fellowship and thanksgiving. The theme for the night was “The Colour Red” hence many came dressed in red as this was Rev. Canon’s favourite colour.

I recently had the opportunity to photograph Madam Regina’s 75th birthday at Sunway, PJ. Being a close knit and devout christian family, the party started off with thanksgiving prayers followed by cake cutting before dinner. A variety of drinks and freshly cooked local food such as satay, thosai and apam among others were served to guests.

I could sense the warmth and love from each family member both young and old and their joy in celebrating such an important occasion. This is one of the reasons why I love photography…as it allows me to capture such beautiful moments which will be treasured for the rest of their lives !

I’ve had a great time photographing the party and getting to know the family. I hope to see all of you again and lastly may God bless you, Mdm Regina with many more birthdays to come !
